The West Seneca Public Library, a branch of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, underwent a total renovation in 2018. The overall project goal was to transform the entire dated structure into a modern, yet timeless design inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright.

CPL, the architectural firm who completed both the architecture and interior design work, wanted the interior to complement the building style. MidCity worked with CPL to devise the appropriate furniture solutions to best fit the client’s needs within the space and match the overall design vision.

Prior to the redesign, the antiquated large wooden tables and furniture emitted feelings of discomfort that caused patrons to take their books home, rather than stick around the library to read. During the renovation, every detail was thoughtfully planned to draw the community in and meet specific needs within the separate areas of the library.

Stimulating, vibrant colors and materials were chosen for the youth area of the library. ERG Laguna and Allsteel Rise modular lounge seating were installed to encourage a comfortable environment as kids explore and learn.

A new addition to the library was the makerspace, designed for creative activities, workshops, and events. For use in crafting, custom Pisa tables with butcher block tops were installed, along with electrical pull-down plugs from the ceiling.

Other new workspaces include archived, semi-private study carrels. These were complete with NxtWall demountable floor-to-ceiling glass wall to keep spaces open and airy, while still allowing privacy for studying or working with others. Bigger conference rooms each have a whiteboard film applied over one of their glass walls to facilitate collaboration. Modern technology needs were at the forefront of the design teams’ minds in these workspaces. Powered tables adorn all conference rooms and community study areas. The conference rooms are also equipped with wireless phone chargers, universal to any phone type.

MidCity and CPL are proud of the work that was completed and are excited for the West Seneca community to utilize this updated public space. Designer Sara Evans from MidCity stated, “The architectural team knew exactly what they wanted. They had their client’s best interests in mind at all times throughout the design process. It was a pleasure to work with them on this project.”

Architect on the project, Carly Owczarczak of CPL, stated, “The team at MidCity, from designers to installers, were client-oriented and a pleasure to work with. Their thoroughness and attention to detail made our lives easier. MidCity’s designers were prepared through every phase of the project, from initial furniture selection to furniture plans to finish selection. They walked us through everything and quickly implemented changes. Best of all, they provided high quality pieces of furniture that met the client’s needs, look, and, most importantly, function.”

Southtown Audio Video took a leap. They were looking to create a space that did not exist currently within their industry. No one has created a space for both commercial and residential audio video solutions that demonstrates, hands-on how their products work. Their goal isn’t to tell you why one TV is better than another. Rather, this ‘Experience Center’ will demonstrate to you how everything is interconnected using technology.
